Five families of toroidal winding

Every family starts from the same tape wound core and the same winding machine. What changes is what you need: the turns ratio, the insulation, the way the part ends up inside your machine.

The values shown are typical working ranges. Outside the range is not a no, it is a phone call.

01

Toroidal isolation and safety transformers

The part we make most. It separates your electronics from the mains, brings the voltage down to what you need, and does it with very low no load losses and almost no stray field.

  • Single or dual primary for 230 V and 400 V mains
  • Up to four independent secondaries on one core
  • Electrostatic shield between primary and secondary on request
  • Self resetting thermal cutout or thermal fuse built into the winding
Typical working data
Rating5 VA to 3000 VA
Primary voltage12 V to 480 V, single or dual
Secondary voltage2 V to 400 V, up to four outputs
Frequency50 Hz and 60 Hz, 400 Hz on request
Insulation classB, F, H
Dielectric strength4 kV AC for one minute
Regulation3 to 12 per cent depending on rating
Terminationsflying leads, faston, terminal block
02

Toroidal autotransformers

When galvanic separation is not required and only the voltage has to be adapted, an autotransformer does the same job in less space and with less copper. Typical for imported machines brought onto European mains.

  • Adaptation between 100 V, 110 V, 120 V, 220 V, 230 V and 240 V
  • Fixed or switchable intermediate taps
  • Higher efficiency and smaller envelope for the same rating
  • Note: no galvanic separation from the mains
Typical working data
Rating50 VA to 3000 VA
Typical ratios230 V to 110 V and 115 V to 230 V
Tapsup to three, switchable on request
Frequency50 Hz and 60 Hz
Insulation classB, F
Terminationsflying leads or terminal block
03

Inductors, line reactors and common mode chokes

Coils on ferrite, iron powder or nanocrystalline toroidal cores, to smooth a current, limit a rate of rise or take conducted noise off the line.

  • Ferrite, iron powder, sendust and nanocrystalline cores
  • Inductance to specification with a stated tolerance
  • Bifilar winding for common mode chokes
  • Value verified over frequency on the sample
Typical working data
Inductance10 uH to 500 mH
Current0.1 A to 60 A
Tolerance5 to 20 per cent depending on material
Core materialsferrite, iron powder, sendust, nanocrystalline
Configurationssingle, bifilar, three phase
Finishingpotting or cup on request
04

Current transformers and sensors

High ratio windings for measuring a current without breaking the conductor. The primary is the busbar or cable that passes through the hole, the secondary is what we wind.

  • Ratios from 1 to 100 up to 1 to 5000
  • Ferrite or nanocrystalline core depending on the linearity required
  • Through hole sized on your conductor
  • Ratio calibration on the sample on request
Typical working data
Ratio1:100 to 1:5000
Primary current1 A to 600 A
Class0.5 to 3 depending on application
Hole diameter8 mm to 60 mm
Terminationsflying leads, pins for printed circuit board
05

Special coils and windings to order

Everything outside the four families above. Air coils, winding on cores you supply, rebuilding a part that is out of production, samples for laboratory work.

  • Subcontract winding on your cores
  • Reproduction of an obsolete part from the sample
  • Air coils and windings for laboratory testing
  • Minimum quantity: one piece
Typical working data
Quantity1 piece to repeat runs
Wireenamelled copper 0.08 mm to 3.00 mm
Coresupplied by us or on a subcontract basis
Documentationtest report and data sheet on request

What we add when it is needed

Electrostatic shield

Copper foil between primary and secondary, earthed, to cut the noise that crosses by capacitive coupling. Typical in audio and instrumentation.

Thermal protection

Self resetting cutout, thermal fuse or a PTC sensor buried in the winding, set to the chosen thermal class.

Impregnation

Impregnating resin to lock the turns, improve heat transfer and take the mechanical hum out of the part under load.

Containment

Metal or plastic cup, full potting, rubber pad and central fixing bolt, brackets to your drawing.

All we are missing is your figure

Voltage, rating, available space. With three numbers we can start, the rest we work out.
